Two F-35 fighters from the Norwegian Air Force were scrambled on Tuesday. This was in response to the movement of two Russian Tu-95 bombers which flew close to NATO airspace in the Arctic region, as reported by NATO Air Command on Wednesday.
Norwegian F-35 pilots swiftly located and identified the Russian aircraft, maintaining a safe distance that allowed them to closely monitor their movements.
NATO emphasised that the advanced capabilities of the F-35 enabled the gathering of crucial information and ensured that the Russian aircraft did not violate the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance.
"Our Quick Reaction Alert mission in the Arctic is vital for our national defence and NATO's collective security. The ability to react swiftly ensures the safety of our airspace and highlights the strength of our allied forces in maintaining peace and stability," said Major General Oeivind Gunnerud, commander of the Norwegian Air Force.
