This happened while you were sleeping. Here is what global agencies reported overnight from Friday to Saturday.

  • 247 passengers and crew members were evacuated from a Vistara Airlines passenger plane. The plane, flying from India to Germany, made an emergency landing in eastern Turkey after a piece of toilet paper with a handwritten note saying "bomb on board" was found in the lavatory. The information about the dangerous device turned out to be false.
  • Roads near two border crossings between Serbia and Kosovo near the villages of Merdare and Jarinje have been blocked, according to local media. The blockade is a response to the authorities in Pristina closing five Serbian institutions operating in Kosovo. The organisers of the blockades are stopping cars with Kosovo licence plates and checking if travellers have Serbian documents.
  • Israeli soldiers fatally shot an activist during a protest against the expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, reported the AP agency. The 26-year-old woman was a citizen of the United States and Turkey. The Israeli army said it is investigating the matter.
  • Iran has supplied Russia with short-range ballistic missiles, revealed "The Wall Street Journal". The newspaper cites American and European officials. The United States and the EU had previously warned that such a move by Iran would be met with sanctions.
  • The Starliner capsule detached from the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday and began its return journey to Earth, leaving behind a two-person crew, whose return aboard the capsule was deemed "too risky", reported agencies. "Separation confirmed. Starliner is departing the station and beginning its return to Earth," NASA announced in a statement quoted by AFP. Astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams, who arrived at the ISS in June aboard the Boeing spacecraft, will return to Earth aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon in February 2025.
