Queens nightclub shooting leaves 11 injured at gang event
On Wednesday evening in the Queens district of New York City, a shooting took place outside a nightclub, resulting in at least 11 people being injured, reported the "AMNewYork Metro" portal.
The dramatic incident happened as dozens of people were queuing to enter the club. According to sources familiar with the investigation, a private party was underway inside the venue at the time.
Media reports suggest that the event was intended to commemorate a well-known gang member who was killed in October.
The injured were transported to hospitals. "AMNewYork Metro" reports that none of the victims are in critical condition. The victims consist of six women and four men aged 16 to 20.
The New York Police Department has not yet issued an official statement regarding the shooting. Efforts continue to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Access to guns in the US. Numerous discussions abound
In the US, gun violence is a serious social issue. According to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2021, there were approximately 48,000 gun-related deaths in the United States, with more than half being suicides.
The high level of gun violence is a cause for concern among both citizens and politicians.
Many advocates for stricter gun control regulations point to the correlation between easy access to guns and higher levels of violence. Studies show that in states with less restrictive laws, such as Texas, gun-related incidents, including mass shootings, occur more frequently.
