Russia accused of dwindling military arsenal as losses shrink
The Ukrainian agency Unian reports that Russian losses in Ukraine have decreased to a record low, citing calculations by an OSINT analyst. Data collected by the Oryx portal suggest that the Russian Federation is running out of equipment.
The data gathered by the Oryx team indicate a reduction in Russia's losses of military equipment in Ukraine. This trend was particularly noticeable in February. An OSINT analyst operating under the pseudonym Cyrus on the platform X published an infographic illustrating these changes. The analyst proposes two explanations for this change.
The first explanation suggests that reducing equipment losses may indicate a general depletion of weapons in the Russian army. Alternatively, Cyrus emphasises that the Russians may store and stockpile equipment for a larger offensive in the spring or summer.
— All these reductions in losses and the appearance of donkeys and soldiers on crutches on the battlefield do not indicate preparations for a significant counter-offensive — the analyst stated, noting that a more realistic scenario may be the depletion of Russian stockpiles in warehouses.
Ukrainian losses and new technologies
Unlike Russia, Ukrainian losses do not show such a clear decrease. Cyrus notes even a slight increase, which may indicate an increase in equipment in the Ukrainian armed forces or a stable amount with intensified fighting.
New technologies on the front
Russian forces have started using modernised ATS-59G tractors on the front, which are considered significant rarities. They can replace traditional transporters. The Unian agency notes that this may be another argument supporting the thesis about the depletion of Russian weapons.
OSINT analyst Cyrus does not specify exactly which machines the Russians have lost the most. However, it is known that among the most valuable such vehicles are the T-90M Proryv tanks. Although not as many have been destroyed in the last few years of the war as the BTR and BMP transporters, they pose a real threat to Ukrainian units on the front.
The T-90M Proryv is one of the Russian army's most modern and sophisticated armoured vehicles. This tank utilises advanced technology to achieve an advantage in contemporary armed conflicts. It features a modern 125 mm 2A46M-5 calibre gun and an upgraded Kalina fire control system. Its protection is further enhanced by Relikt reactive armour, protecting both the turret and the hull. The armament is supplemented by two machine guns with calibres of 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm, highlighting the attention to equipment selection according to the standards of contemporary military technology.
