Certain types of changes in the body should immediately catch our attention. Experts highlight signals that might indicate skin cancer.

Cancer Research UK reports that each year, 156,000 people receive a diagnosis of skin cancer other than melanoma. Meanwhile, 17,500 have to confront melanoma. Data also indicates that in 86% of cases, melanoma can be prevented – experts call for, among other things, minimising exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is hazardous to our health.

Two symptoms may not seem dangerous at first glance. However, their occurrence should prompt us to consult a doctor.

Two warning signs. When you notice them, it's better to see a doctor

Chapped lips

Chapped lips are not unusual, especially in the autumn and winter seasons. With regular use of moisturising lip balm, the problem should disappear. However, if you have dry, chapped lips at different times of the year and the problem persists, be sure to see a doctor.

Oncology nurse Mark Brown emphasised in an interview with the "Daily Express" that if our lips are parched and cracked despite using lip balm and drinking more water, and if they begin to bleed, it may suggest a precancerous condition.

Changes in the nail plate

Another worrisome sign can be observed on the nails. Dermatologist Dr James Grichnik emphasised that some people naturally have pigmented nail bands. However, if the change appears suddenly, and the appearance of one nail is significantly different from the others, consult a specialist.

Moreover, changes in colour should not only alarm us. Nail plates can appear atypical in cases of other conditions besides cancer. Experts also list noticeable differences in nail surface or splitting of the tips among the concerning changes.
