The Ukrainian command announced that during the night, a strike was conducted on the position of the Russian S-300 missile system near Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region.

"In the early hours of 21 August, units of the Ukrainian Navy, in cooperation with other components of the army, struck the opponent's anti-aircraft S-300 missile system near the town of Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region of Russia," reads the statement from the General Staff.

The General Staff reported that the attack resulted in an explosion. Work is currently underway to determine the accuracy of the hit.

"S-300 systems are used not only for defensive purposes"

The General Staff reported: "It should be noted that Russian forces also use S-300 systems for attacks on peaceful Ukrainian cities, destroying residential buildings, and terrorizing the civilian population."

The General Staff assured that the Ukrainian armed forces continue cooperation aimed at important targets of the Russian army.

"Our joint combat work, involving all components of the Ukrainian armed forces, is continually ongoing," emphasised the General Staff.

This is not the first Ukrainian attack in the Rostov region. As a result of one of the strikes, a fire broke out at a fuel base in the town of Proletarsk. The attack on it occurred on Sunday due to Ukrainian drones. The area engulfed by flames is as large as 10,000 square metres.
