Windows 11 update triggers gaming frustrations for users
The latest Windows 11 update not only introduces new features but also causes issues affecting the functioning of games. Increasingly, disgruntled gamers are posting online about difficulties in launching games such as Assassin's Creed Origins and Path of Exile 2.
Windows 11 is a modern operating system that receives regular updates to enhance functionality, security, and user experience. The latest update, marked as 24H2, includes features such as Copilot+ and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth management updates. Additionally, taskbar and File Explorer modifications have significantly improved their functionality.
This update is distributed by default via Windows Update and installs automatically for many users unless their update settings have been changed. More disgruntled users are voicing their concerns online, struggling to launch new games after updating the system.
Issues with games on Windows 11 24H2
The first reports of issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update appeared at the end of 2024, with difficulties reported with the following titles:
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Assassin's Creed Origins
- Assassin's Creed Odyssey
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Problems persist, and users seem increasingly irritated. In recent days, Assassin's Creed Origins has received a wave of negative reviews on the Steam platform, with about 15 percent of the reviews being negative. Angry gamers blame both Microsoft and Ubisoft for the issues.
One user comments:
"The game does not start. Steam apologises but does not intend to assist as it is a problem with the game's developer and mine. I do not recommend it. Steam says I've played for 8 minutes, but the game did not start even for a second, yet every time I attempt to launch it, the time counts xd."
As reported by the Windows Latest service, users have also begun reporting issues with the game Path of Exile 2, developed by Grinding Gear Games. Editors noted that the computer may crash during an attempt to start the game, but typically, the problem ceases after restarting the system.
Microsoft investigates the matter
At present, it's difficult to find a solution to the problems following the Windows 11 update. However, the increasing number of comments from frustrated users might put pressure on companies to identify the cause of the issues and develop a solution.
Microsoft is investigating the issue with game performance. In a comment regarding the problem, a note appeared stating, "We are analysing how this feedback can help us improve your experience."
Therefore, it remains to be seen when the problem will be investigated, the cause determined, and appropriate solutions implemented.
