In its latest commentary, the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter emphasizes that the traditional concept of the West is fading. According to the newspaper, the United States is becoming closer to Russia, which distances it from Europe.

In the article, the words of the Kremlin spokesperson are quoted, claiming that Donald Trump's foreign policy aligns with Moscow's perspective. This may suggest that easing tensions in transatlantic relations won't be possible shortly.

Trump's National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, suggested that Ukraine needs a leader capable of negotiating with both Washington and Moscow to resolve the conflict.

Trump follows the same path as Putin, notes "Dagens Nyheter."

Europe facing challenges

The newspaper also quotes Trump as saying during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he "has no cards to play." Given this statement, the question of whether Europe can provide Ukraine with military, political, and economic support arises.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk highlights Europe's military potential, which remains underutilized due to a lack of political will. "Dagens Nyheter" quotes his remarks on the paradox of 500 million Europeans requesting protection from 300 million Americans against 140 million Russians.

The Swedish columnist emphasizes that Europe lacks imagination and courage, which hinders its independent action on the international stage. Given shifting relations with the United States, the continent must find new ways to strengthen its position.
