President of the United States, Joe Biden, will soon have a chance to rebuild the trust of his voters, which was strained by an unsuccessful debate with Donald Trump. ABC will interview the American leader on Friday. The broadcast is scheduled for prime time (GMT).

The election campaign in the U.S. is entering a more advanced phase. Meanwhile, incumbent President Joe Biden must regain the trust of voters and party officials who seriously doubt his intellectual abilities. The reason is the unsuccessful debate with Donald Trump, during which the American leader appeared disoriented. Questions have arisen in American media about whether the 81-year-old president can lead the free world for another four years.

Joe Biden to be interviewed by an American television network

The Friday interview with ABC News is the most crucial element of Biden's weekend offensive. The broadcast is scheduled for prime time (GMT).

Biden's staffers are aware that he cannot afford the slightest slip-up. So far, assurances that his poor performance during the debate was a one-time incident and that Biden is ready to remain in the race have not calmed the party base.

According to the "New York Times," the president has admitted in conversations with allies that another failure in the coming days would force him to reconsider his participation in the race. However, the White House and campaign staff have denied these reports.

Biden must also focus on strengthening support among world leaders who will arrive in Washington next week for the summit marking NATO's 75th anniversary. According to Bloomberg, his poor performance during the debate has caused a wave of concern in allied capitals. Reports have also surfaced that some diplomats believe the president's age is a problem during key international meetings.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is solidifying his position. The former president plans to hold rallies in Florida and Pennsylvania. He also suggests that he is close to announcing his vice-presidential candidate.

Trump leads over Biden

According to the latest Wall Street Journal poll, Trump currently has a 6-point lead over Biden, 48 to 42 per cent. This gives Biden's rival the largest lead recorded this year. At the same time, eight out of ten Americans believe the current president is too old to seek a second term.

President Biden does not, however, intend to slow down. His staff has confirmed that Biden will hold a series of meetings at the month's end to garner support from Black and Latino voters in the southwest. Biden will also participate in conferences for the NAACP and UnidosUS in Las Vegas, as his staff informed him in a press note. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to appear at the Essence Festival in New Orleans and speak during the annual meetings of two historic Black women's associations.
