Brazil plane crash leaves 62 dead in tragic landing attempt near São Paulo
On Friday (9 August), a passenger plane, an ATR-72, crashed in Brazil. There were 58 passengers and four crew members on board. Tragically, no one survived the disaster. One of the passengers on the ill-fated flight had written to her family expressing her fear for her life. Concerned, she sent a photo to her loved ones.
Flight 2283 of the Voepass airline began on Friday (9 August) from Cascavel Airport (Paraná region in southern Brazil) and was scheduled to land at Guarulhos International Airport (São Paulo). Minutes before reaching its destination, the plane crashed in a residential area in Vinhedo, on the outskirts of São Paulo.
One of the passengers on the ill-fated flight, Rosana Xavier, sent a worrying message to her family just before the tragedy - reports the "Daily Mail".
"We're going to arrive in the rain. I am so scared of this flight I swear, the plane is old," texted Rosana. A minute later, she wrote: "There is a broken seat. I swear. Chaos," reads the SMS.
Rosana's mother, Rosemeire Xavier, told Brazilian television reporters that she had instructed her daughter to read verses from the Bible. The worried 23-year-old, sitting on the plane, took a selfie and sent it to her family members minutes before the crash.
At the crash site, rescuers found the bodies of all the passengers - 34 men and 28 women. Among them were the first pilot, Danilo Romano, and his assistant, Humberto de Silva. By Tuesday (13 August) morning, the authorities had managed to identify 17 victims.
