A tragic accident occurred at one of the busiest airports in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson International in Atlanta. After a tyre explosion on a Delta Air Lines plane, two people have died, and one has been seriously injured.

The accident happened in a maintenance facility connected to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. As reported by WSB-TV, the tyre exploded while it was being dismantled.

The tyre explosion led to the death of one Delta employee and one contractor. A second airline employee was seriously injured. He was immediately transported to the hospital.

Delta team members are devastated by the loss of two crew members and the injuries of another individual due to the incident that occurred this morning at the maintenance facility in Atlanta (TOC 3). We have provided full support to the family members and colleagues in this extremely difficult time - stated the airline in a statement.

Tragedy at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Investigation underway

The plane involved in the tragedy arrived in Atlanta on Sunday evening from Las Vegas. An investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the incident.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased Delta Air Lines employees - wrote Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens on X.

"My thoughts are also with those who were injured, and I hope for their swift and full recovery. AFRD, APD, and HJAIA teams are on-site and are working intensively to resolve the situation," he added.

Airline authorities expressed their gratitude for the swift response of the emergency services on-site. "We are grateful for the prompt action of the emergency services and medical teams on-site," they stated in the announcement.
