French voter turnout hits highest level since 1981

The Ministry of the Internal Affairs in Paris reported that the voter turnout in the second round of the early parliamentary elections in France at 15:00 GMT was 59.71%, the highest rate since 1981.
The turnout at 15:00 GMT on Sunday is slightly higher than in the first round of the elections, which took place on 30th June. At that time, by 15:00 GMT, 59.39% of the French had voted.

The final hours of voting are ongoing. Polling stations will close at 17:00 GMT outside major cities, where voting will end at 19:00 GMT. Only after all polling stations are closed can exit poll data be published.
The second round of elections will determine whether the far-right National Rally (RN), which led after the first round, will be able to secure an absolute majority in the parliament (at least 289 seats) and form a government.
