NATO promises increased aid as Ukraine intercepts daily missile attacks

Ukraine intercepts Russian missiles daily, but its defence capabilities require greater support. Allies have confirmed that they will increase their military aid, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated after the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting.

The meeting was convened at the request of Ukraine. Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov joined representatives of NATO member countries, discussing current needs.

"Ukraine continues to intercept Russian missiles daily, saving countless lives. However, Ukraine's ability to maintain defence requires increased deliveries and greater support," stated Stoltenberg in the statement issued after the Wednesday meeting. "In response to the recent Russian attack, allies have confirmed that they will increase their military aid to Ukraine," he noted.

He added that Ukraine still needs equipment and ammunition, which allies must deliver so that it can remain on the battlefield

The NATO-Ukraine Council was established at the NATO summit in July 2023 and serves as a forum for consultations between NATO and Ukraine.
