NATO summit to address Russian missile threat near Poland

On Tuesday, the alliance's leaders will meet to mark the 75th anniversary of its founding.

Russian missiles pose a significant threat. On Monday, as a result of a missile attack on Kyiv, members of the staff of the Ochmatdyt Children's Hospital were among those killed. In the capital alone, the list of victims included 27 names. The date of the attack was probably not coincidental. On Tuesday (9th July), the NATO summit will occur in Washington.

Russian missiles threaten not only Ukraine but also Poland. It is known that in recent months there have been several incidents involving the violation of our country's airspace. It is possible that during the NATO summit, leaders will discuss this issue.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller was asked if the issue of shooting down Russian missiles over Ukrainian territory, if they threaten Poland, will be discussed during Tuesday's NATO summit. The topic came up in a discussion between Donald Tusk and Volodymyr Zelensky during the Ukrainian president's visit to Warsaw.

There's something to discuss - Miller replied. - I have no changes to announce today, either in US policy or NATO policy. But of course, whenever a NATO member wants to raise a policy issue, they have the opportunity to discuss it with other heads of state. This week we have a summit, and I am sure it's something that can be discussed - added the US State Department spokesperson.

However, he admitted that such a proposal would have to meet with the approval of the entire Alliance. The war in Ukraine shows, however, that successive taboos regarding support for Kyiv in the war with Russia are being broken very slowly.

We need cooperation with NATO here. It is in the interest of Poland and Ukraine that such an action has the approval stamp of the international community, preferably NATO - emphasised Miller.

Recall that in April 2023, a Russian missile was found in the town of Zamost near Bydgoszcz. The incident occurred on 16 December 2022, but the public learned about it with a significant delay. The prosecutor's office investigated the case. A Russian missile also violated airspace on 24 March this year, when it was found over Oserdów. After 39 seconds, it returned to Ukrainian territory.

A tragedy occurred on 15th November 2022 in Przewodów. A Russian-made missile struck the village of Przewodów, killing two people. As determined, it was a Ukrainian air defence missile. According to investigators, it was not fired from Russian territory.
