Russian soldier attempts arson at Revda restaurant over fruit dish dispute

A Russian soldier attempted to set a restaurant on fire in the city of Revda in the Sverdlovsk region. His reaction was due to his dissatisfaction with one of the dishes. The man expressed anger about being treated this way despite being a participant in the war in Ukraine.

According to Russian media, the incident occurred on Thursday, 25 July in the Russian city of Revda, Sverdlovsk region. The recording was published on Sunday, and it was published by the independent Russian portal ASTRA.

Surveillance footage shows the entrance to the restaurant "Fat Shrimp." A man dressed in uniform approaches the building with a red jerrycan in hand. After a moment, he begins pouring liquid, likely petrol, in front of the entrance. The man who witnesses this flees into the establishment in panic. The soldier continues pouring the liquid but fails to ignite the restaurant because someone suddenly rushes out from inside and knocks him down with a few blows.

The ASTRA portal reports that during the arrest, the man shouted that he was a participant in the war in Ukraine.

Russian portal BAZA reported that the customer in uniform first ate fish and then ordered a fruit plate. After trying the fruit, the man was outraged and claimed it smelled like fish. The manager of the "Fat Shrimp" reviewed footage from the kitchen surveillance cameras and noticed that this was impossible, as the cutting of fish dishes and fruit is done with different knives, according to BAZA.

When the customer started shouting, security escorted him outside. The man in uniform then allegedly called the police himself, stating that "a member of the Special Military Operation (as the aggression in Ukraine is called in Russia) was not allowed into the restaurant."

The restaurant owner reported that the man was first taken to the police station but was then taken by the military. This indicates that the aggressor was indeed a Russian soldier.
