Is there anything better than a piece of sweet, extremely chocolatey brownie? It is one of the most popular cakes in the world. It is delicious and... highly high in calories. However, there is a way to make it a bit "lighter." Just add some seasonal vegetables to it.

A brownie is a simple chocolate cake made with butter, chocolate, eggs, and flour. It is sweet, moist, and incredibly chocolatey—a true feast for any sweet tooth. The cake has one fairly large downside—it is very high in calories.

That doesn't mean you have to give up on this treat. Discover the recipe for a healthier brownie version. After baking, it is an insanely fluffy and moist treat, thanks to a particularly unusual seasonal vegetable that can be bought in any store during the summer.

How to make good brownie?

The brownie was invented in the United States. Thanks to a librarian who forgot to add baking powder while preparing a chocolate cake. This is how one of the most popular chocolate cakes in the world was created.

How to make a good brownie? The most important ingredient here is butter because it is responsible for the cake's unique, almost pouring consistency. And let's not forget about the chocolate. A classic brownie is made with 70% chocolate, which gives it a deep, chocolatey flavour. The batter also includes eggs, sugar, and a bit of flour to bind all the ingredients together. The cake can be enriched with various additives, such as nuts, fruits, or cheesecake filling.

However, there is a way to reduce the cake's calorie content without losing its intense, chocolatey flavour. Add grated courgette. This will make the cake about half as calorie-dense. Discover the simple recipe below.

Courgette brownie — Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium courgettes,
  • 500 grams of flour,
  • 60 grams of butter,
  • 3 eggs,
  • 50 grams of cocoa,
  • 200 grams of sugar or erythritol,
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder,
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda.

Preparation:

  1. Wash, dry, and grate the courgettes on a coarse grater.
  2. Please place them in a sieve to remove excess water.
  3. Take a large bowl and place the beaten eggs and sugar in it. Mix the whole thing into a fluffy mass.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder, cocoa, bicarbonate of soda, and melted butter. Mix again.
  5. Finally, add the courgette. Pour the ready batter into a baking tray lined with parchment paper and place it in an oven preheated to 185°C, heating top and bottom. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Enjoy!
