Czech army bolsters capability with final next Titus delivery

The Czech army has received the last 62 Nexter TITUS wheeled armoured vehicles ordered.

Nexter TITUS (Tactical Infantry Transport & Utility System) is a family of combat vehicles developed in Czecho-French cooperation. It combines the features of a wheeled armoured personnel carrier with the capabilities of a mine-resistant MRAP class vehicle.

The vehicle is based on the three-axle Tatra 817 chassis in a 6×6 configuration with steerable outer axles, developed by the Czech company Tatra. It is powered by a Cummins engine with 370 kW, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds up to 110 km/h.

The French Nexter contributed the armoured body, whose resistance can be adjusted using modular armour in the range of 2-4 according to the NATO standard STANAG 4569.

In practice, this means that the vehicle can be resistant to fire from large-calibre KPWT machine guns in the heaviest armour variant, firing 14.5 mm rounds. These are the main armament of Russian armoured personnel carriers, including the BTR family.

The vehicles have a roof-mounted, remotely operated Nexter ARX20 weapon station. Depending on the configuration, it is equipped with either a 40-millimetre grenade launcher or a 20-millimetre automatic cannon. The vehicle has a three-person crew and can transport up to 12 dismounted soldiers.

The Czechs ordered 62 vehicles in command, fire control, and liaison vehicle variants. In addition to the Czech army, Nexter TITUS vehicles are also used by the armed forces of Albania, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
