Michael Oliver was the referee for the Portugal vs France match in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, which ended in favour of the latter team. In the 55th minute, a humorous situation occurred as the English referee lost his cards and was "penalised" by one of the players.

On Friday, 5 July, we learned the first semi-final pair of Euro 2024. The national teams of Spain and France, who have had intense matches, will compete for a place in the grand final.

La Furia Roja eliminated the tournament hosts—Germany—only after extra time, thanks to a goal in the 119th minute for a 2-1 win. Meanwhile, Les Bleus needed a penalty shootout to finally eliminate Portugal.

In the second match, a humorous situation involving the referee occurred. The referee for this game was Englishman Michael Oliver, who lost his cards during a run in the 55th minute.

This caused Oliver to briefly pause the game to retrieve his lost items. Vitinha noticed the whole situation, as it was the Portuguese player who picked up the equipment lost by the referee.

At that moment, a funny scene took place. Before returning the referee's items, the player decided to show him a yellow card. In this way, he somewhat "penalised" him for the mishap.

A recording of this incident reached social media.
