This is what happened while you were sleeping. Here’s what global agencies reported overnight from Thursday to Friday.

  • An execution was carried out on Thursday at the state prison in Florida, USA, on Loran Cole. He was executed for the murder of an 18-year-old student and the rape of his older sister. The crimes occurred in 1994.
  • A former member of the Italian terrorist organization Red Brigades was arrested in Buenos Aires. After 20 years, Argentine authorities stripped him of his refugee status and decided on his extradition to Italy, where he faces a 27-year prison sentence. 72-year-old Bertulazzi, who used the pseudonym "Stefano" in the Red Brigades, was sentenced in absentia in Italy for the kidnapping of wealthy marine engineer Piero Costa in Genoa in 1977. Bertulazzi was previously detained in Argentina in 2002, but the National Refugee Commission granted him refugee status two years later. Since then, he has been living legally in South America.
  • Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, gave a joint interview for the first time to CNN. The U.S. presidential candidate spoke about her future plans and summarised her work as vice president in Joe Biden's administration.
