Cracked heels are a common problem, especially in the summer when we wear sandals that expose our feet. During this time, we desire them to be perfectly smooth. However, there is an effective and inexpensive way to solve the problem of dry heels.

Dryness and cracks on the heels are particularly troublesome in the summer. Many people try to quickly remove hardening skin by using pumice stones and intensively scrubbing their heels.

However, this approach is wrong. Although it provides temporary relief, it does not solve the problem in the long run. Many practical and cheap solutions can solve this issue much more effectively.

A gentle foot scrub is an effective solution that will work better. Instead of damaging the skin, it gradually exfoliates dead skin cells, improving the appearance of the heels. You do not need expensive products—baking soda will do the job perfectly.

This commonly available kitchen powder has uses beyond baking or cleaning. It can become the basis for a home cosmetic. Importantly, its preparation is not difficult at all.

Just mix two tablespoons of baking soda with one tablespoon of water. Apply the resulting paste to your feet, especially the heels, and leave it on for a few minutes. Then rinse your feet dry them thoroughly, and finally apply a moisturising or lubricating cream. The effect should be visible immediately.

Alternatively, prepare a foot soak with baking soda and salt. To do so, add two tablespoons of baking soda and two tablespoons of salt to warm water in a basin, then soak your feet for about 15 minutes. This will make caring for your heels more pleasant. Adding oils such as lavender or eucalyptus will make the treatment more relaxing. After the soak, you need to dry your feet and apply cream.

Dry heels do not appear without reason

The appearance of dry heels, in many cases, is not accidental. They can result from wearing tight footwear but also other factors, including health problems. They affect people who are overweight, have a vitamin A deficiency, diabetes, hypothyroidism, or rheumatism.

Pregnant women can also experience cracked heels, which are often the result of wearing high heels or improper foot hygiene. We should start eliminating this problem by properly addressing these issues.

If the methods mentioned earlier fail, a visit to a doctor might be necessary. A specialist will precisely identify the problem's source and implement appropriate treatment.
