Do you decide to go for bikini hair removal more often during the holiday season? Watch out for irritation and ingrown hairs. As a dermatologist has informed me, there are several ways to avoid problems with delicate skin.

Hair removal of intimate areas is a personal matter. Many women undergo this procedure when the holiday season approaches. Some choose to visit a beautician, but many handle this task independently.

The skin around the bikini area is very delicate and sensitive to any irritations. When starting the hair removal process, you should avoid several actions that could irritate your skin. Dermatologist Dr Jinah Yoo explained how to properly go about removing hair in intimate areas.

Be careful not to make these mistakes. Otherwise, you'll end up with irritations

The first thing to do before grabbing a depilator or razor is to wet the skin and hair thoroughly. Dermatologist Dr Jinah Yoo notes in a discussion with "The Sun" that it's ideal to take a longer bath before hair removal, during which your skin softens properly.

The expert also advises having a separate razor for intimate area hair removal. Another important point is the direction of the razor - to avoid ingrown hairs and skin problems, you should move the razor in the direction of hair growth. Direct the blade downwards, not upwards - this will reduce the risk of irritation.

When depilating intimate areas, remember to disinfect and thoroughly clean the razor. In the case of using a product with replaceable blades - when shaving regularly, replace them every 1-2 weeks.

Before hair removal, people often forget to exfoliate the skin - this is a big mistake, especially with a tendency towards ingrown hairs. Exfoliating raises the hairs, making it easier for the razor to work. Never perform hair removal on dry skin if you have ingrown hairs. After such a procedure, expect cuts and painful skin irritations.

Before hair removal, if your hair is quite long, don't be afraid to trim it. Otherwise, you'll have to make several passes with the razor, which can result in numerous bumps.

Proper care after hair removal

After hair removal, it is very important to take proper care of the skin. Use moisturising creams and lotions, but choose unscented, gentle ones designed for specific skin areas. Also, pay attention to the underwear you wear immediately after shaving. Opt for soft cotton instead of tight, lacy ones.
