Kamala Harris poised for presidential run as Biden steps down
Kamala Harris has the greatest chance to replace Joe Biden in the race for President of the USA. According to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, the "Biden for President" campaign committee has just been renamed the "Harris for President" campaign committee.
I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and our country to defeat Donald Trump," stated US Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday. Joe Biden endorsed Harris's candidacy. Earlier, the President of the USA announced that he would not seek re-election.
"I am honoured to have received the President's endorsement and I intend to earn this nomination and win it," declared Kamala Harris.
Formally, Kamala Harris is not yet the Democratic Party's candidate for president. But the first important decision has already been made.
ABC News reported that according to the new filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the "Biden for President" campaign committee has just been renamed the "Harris for President" campaign committee.
According to ABC News, the main campaign committee for Kamala Harris will now have nearly £75 million in cash.
They will choose the candidate
After President Biden decides to withdraw from the re-election race, the Democratic candidate will be chosen by over 4,600 party delegates, who do not have formal instructions on whom to cast their vote. Despite this, Vice President Kamala Harris is the clear favourite to take over from Biden. Meanwhile, the vice-presidential candidate remains to be appointed.
