Shocking news is reaching us from the Japanese city of Mihama. It turns out that the residents' panic is caused by a single dolphin attacking people. Scientists speculate that it might be searching for a sexual partner and feels lonely.

It is no secret that dolphins are sexually active, and not just during the mating season. These mammals find partners not only to produce offspring. Most likely, sex simply gives them pleasure. That is why they search for partners all year round. When they do not succeed, they feel frustration, nervousness, and loneliness, which they often do not understand. This could be the reason why they sometimes attack people.

This is most likely the case with a sexually frustrated dolphin in Japan. Unexpected news is reaching us from the vicinity of the city of Mihama. A very lonely bottlenose dolphin is desperate to find a partner. As it has not been able to do so for now, it has started attacking innocent people relaxing by the water. The youngest victim of the dolphin is an elementary school student who ended up with stitches on his finger after an encounter with the animal.

In the summer of 2024, as many as 18 dolphin attacks were recorded in Mihama, Japan. This information is being reported by the Kyodo agency, citing the coast guard. They also point out that the number of dangerous encounters between these mammals and people is increasing. In 2022, one dolphin attack was recorded, and in 2023 there were five. What’s more, it may be shocking that most likely all the attacks in 2024 are caused by one individual. This is what scientists believe.

Local authorities are urging people to be careful. They emphasize that dolphins may look like gentle animals, but they are not at all. They remind that an encounter with these mammals can end with a bite from very sharp teeth, which will undoubtedly cause bleeding. Additionally, dolphins can pull a person into the sea, from which it is very difficult to escape.

- Just as in humans and other social animals, hormonal fluctuations, sexual frustration or the desire to dominate might drive the dolphin to injuring the people it interacts with. Since they are such powerful animals, this can lead to serious injury in humans - said biologist Simon Allen from the Australian Shark Bay Dolphin Research project during an interview with the media.

This is how he explained the behaviour of the dangerous dolphin. He also speculates that it might have bad memories with humans, so it reacts nervously.
