A small plane crashed on the A58 road in the Netherlands, near the international airport in Breda. The pilot died. "When it fell, I saw a ball of fire and then smoke," says one of the witnesses.

The incident occurred after 11:30 AM Greenwich Time on the A58 road near Rucphen. A small plane fell on the road, and a fire broke out. A column of black smoke could be seen from kilometres away.

"I saw something spinning and falling. It looked like a small plane, I thought. When it fell, I suddenly saw a ball of fire and then smoke," recounts one of the witnesses in an interview with Omroep Brabant.

The pilot has died

In the accident, the machine's pilot died - he was the only person on the plane. According to the media, he was taking flying lessons at a nearby airport in Breda. The aircraft belongs to the local flight school.

The school said in a statement, "Our thoughts are with his wife, family, and other relatives." The company will be closed for the next few days.

The authorities admit that it's a "miracle" no one else was injured. However, debris from the plane damaged one of the cars.

It is not yet known what caused the accident. The authorities are investigating the matter.
