Tragedy in Indiana: Stepmother charged after stepson's fatal asphyxiation

A woman from Indiana in the United States has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. The American woman is accused of sitting on her stepson, causing his death.

It may seem that parents should be the guarantors of safety for children. It is to them that the youngest should turn when they have problems. They should talk about the future, life, plans, and dreams with them. Unfortunately, sometimes adults do not behave responsibly towards their children. Moreover, there are those who, through their behaviour, lead to tragedy. Such is the case with Jennifer Lee Wilson, a 48-year-old woman from Indiana in the USA.

Disturbing news has reached us from the United States. On Saturday, 17 August, police arrested and transported 48-year-old Jennifer Lee Wilson to jail. The woman will face the charge of manslaughter. It concerns an incident that took place in April 2024. She allegedly sat on her 10-year-old stepson. At a certain point, he began to choke until he stopped breathing.

Dakota Levi Stevens was only 10 years old when his life came to a tragic end. In the spring of 2024, he ran to a neighbour's house, begging them to adopt him. He claimed that his parents had hit him in the face. He said he didn't want to live with them anymore. The neighbour admitted in conversations with police and media that she did not notice any signs of abuse on the child. However, the boy was persistent. After returning home, he tried to run away to the neighbours again.

Jennifer Lee Wilson did not want the boy to run to the neighbours. She decided to stop him, but in the worst possible way. She chose to sit on the little 10-year-old until he calmed down. In a conversation with officers, she admitted that Dakota initially screamed. The woman did not get off him even when he stopped moving. Jennifer Lee Wilson said she thought the boy was pretending but realised he wasn't breathing.

The boy was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, two days after the incident, it was determined that he had died. It was established that he lost his life as a result of mechanical asphyxiation. In short, he was murdered. His stepmother will be charged with manslaughter. She is currently in custody. It is not known when the trial in her case will begin.
