Donald Trump appeared at the Republican Party's Monday convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The presidential candidate made his first public appearance after an unsuccessful assassination attempt on his life. Attention was drawn to the bandage on his ear.

Trump arrived at the convention a few hours after the event's official start.

Earlier, delegates accepted the Republican Party's 20-point programme. On social media, Trump also announced the name of the vice-presidential candidate: Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio.

When Trump, accompanied by shouts and ovations, entered the hall where the convention occurred, everyone focused on his right ear. A large, white bandage covered the wound from a bullet that narrowly missed his head.

Trump did not give a speech on Monday but listened from the audience to the final few speeches, mainly focused on economic issues.

Sitting with his bandaged ear in the company of his vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance, his sons, and right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson, he listened to a speech by African American rapper and influencer Amber Rose, among others.

Assassination attempt on Donald Trump

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was shot in the ear on Saturday during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two people died, including the attacker, and two others were seriously injured.

According to CNN's geolocation analysis, the former U.S. president was approximately 120-150 metres from the would-be assassin.

The Secret Service, the agency responsible for protecting the president and other dignitaries, came under fire because the roof from which the shot was fired was not secured. The building was not in a secured area, explained the Secret Service.
