Rising car theft crisis links eastern Europe to Saxony
Car thefts are becoming more frequent in Saxony. "Eastern European gangs are often behind this," reports lvz.de.
The lvz.de service informs that "last week, two people suspected of being members of an international car trafficking gang were arrested in eastern Poland".
The police operation was part of an investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office in Dresden. The 36- and 46-year-old men are to be extradited to Germany - we read in the material.
According to information provided by the services, the detained men, along with another Polish citizen, have been accused of multiple thefts of Mazda cars in Germany, primarily in Saxony. The activity has been taking place since last year.
Germany writes about an international gang
Earlier, four gang members who already had convictions were arrested. The investigation then focused on the gang's clients and allies in eastern Poland.
On the border with Ukraine, the gang has a transshipment point where they resell stolen vehicles and parts to Eastern Europe - reports lvz.de.
It was also revealed that during recent searches, much evidence was secured, including high-quality theft tools, electronic devices, mobile phones, vehicle parts, and documents being analysed.
The investigation is ongoing - it was informed.
