Ukrainian forces rescue abandoned Russian soldier in daring mission
Even in war, helping another human being has immense significance. The Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrated extraordinary empathy by rescuing a 22-year-old Russian who his superiors had abandoned on an island without food and support.
Anton Herashchenko, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, posted a video on social media showing how the Ukrainian Armed Forces rescued the young Russian soldier abandoned on the battlefield.
The soldier was given just one food ration for three weeks. It later transpired that he had been abandoned for three months. During this time, he tried to survive by eating frogs and reed roots and drinking water from the Dnieper River. He always hoped for rescue.
A journalist, Yuriy Butusov, who shared the footage, described how the soldier lost faith after being wounded in the leg and hearing empty evacuation promises for two more months. When his leg worsened, he ultimately surrendered to a Ukrainian drone.
Ukraine helped the Russian soldier
A Ukrainian drone named "Baba Yaga" spotted 22-year-old Russian marine infantryman Andrei Alimov on an island in the Kherson region. The man held a piece of paper with a dramatic message to give him something to eat.
Soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces responded affirmatively to the request. The 22-year-old waited at the location for an hour, hoping for help. As he reported, soon, a drone flew in, dropping a package with biscuits, two bottles of water, and a life jacket.
Full of hope, the young soldier followed the drone, swimming across the river towards the Ukrainian base, where he was promised safety and support. Upon arrival, he received dry clothes and professional medical assistance.
