On Monday, Prince William and Duchess Kate issued a statement addressing the tragedy that shocked the United Kingdom. As parents of three children, they send their love and condolences to the families of the young victims.

Duchess Kate and Prince William primarily fulfil representational roles. From time to time, they also speak on social issues. Recently, the royal couple publicly commented on the brutal tragedy that occurred on 29 July in the town of Southport, United Kingdom.

As a result of the knife attack, two children were killed and six minors are in critical condition, along with two adults. The event has caused a great stir among the British public, prompting William and Kate to state social media.

As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends, and loved ones of those killed and injured in the Southport tragedy are going through. We send our love, thoughts, and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders, who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most - they wrote in a post on their Instagram profile.

Echos of the Southport tragedy

The royal family does not typically comment on all such events in the country. However, the Southport tragedy is exceptional due to the child victims. William and Kate have three children, so their empathy is natural. In her royal work, Middleton focuses, among other things, on helping children from dysfunctional families. Together with William, she frequently visits children's hospitals and nurseries.

As reported by the Associated Press, the k=nife attack occurred in a community centre where children’s activities such as "a morning of yoga, dancing, and bracelet-making to the music of Taylor Swift" were taking place. The police have already detained the 17-year-old assailant.
